HOW TO HOST A VIRTUAL WEDDING SHOWER

As we all navigate the truly unprecedented nature of the past month and its impact on hosting and attending much-anticipated gift registry, shower, and wedding events, we are thankful to you, our couples, for your openness and communication. Thank you for allowing us to reach out and engage in healthy discussions with all of you. Through these conversations, we have been able to understand how best to support you and what resources we may have that we can pass on to all of you.

Recently we were joined by our National Strategic Partner, Shannon Gail of Shannon Gail Events, who oversees some of our special in-store Private Registry Plus Events across the country. She most recently assisted our team to host our very first virtual shower for one of our team members and brides-to-be, Jami. With many showers postponed as a result of health concerns and current government regulations, we love the idea of gathering your closest friends and family for a virtual shower right from your homes!

HOST(ESS) WITH THE MOSTEST:

Are you the maid, matron, or man of honor for a wedding where the couple has had to postpone their shower? Or maybe a close family or wedding party member who was already planning to host this event? You might be the perfect person to host a virtual shower and kick off the discussion with the couple.

YOU’RE INVITED:

The first step should be having a conversation with the guest of honor to obtain a list of invitees and to decide on a date and time. Be sure to obtain first and last names, physical addresses, phone numbers and email addresses for the group, including the guest of honor, as well as asking the couple for their gift registry information. Send out a cute little text or email to see who is available—but let’s face it, lots of people are pretty available right now!

YOU’VE GOT MAIL:

Next, we suggest putting together a little gift box for the guest of honor and each of the shower attendees with the following items. Alternatively, you could email this information over and ask everyone to get their own white board (or blank paper) together before the shower date!

  • • An itinerary for the shower
  • • A small white board (or blank paper) and marker for the game
  • • Maybe a little shower favor—may we suggest the Tour Champagne Glass?
  • • Be sure to send the attendees the registry information, and encourage them to send a gift prior to the shower date!
  • • You’ll also want to set up a Zoom meeting and send access information to all attendees.

Pro Tip: Give yourself and your guests enough time to get the shower supplies to them and also allow gifts to arrive at the couple’s home. We suggest 10–14 days from when the invite goes out.

SAMPLE ITINERARY:

10:45 am Pour your drink of choice and get your phone or computer ready! Have your white board (or blank paper) and marker nearby for the game!

10:50 am Log into Zoom and troubleshoot any video/audio issues before the shower begins.

11:00 am Party time! Everyone introduces themselves and toasts to the guest of honor!

11:30 am Game time! Our favorite idea is a little game of “This or That.” The host should compile a cute list of “would she rather” prompts to ask guests. For example, “Would she rather sleep in late or get up early . . . drink coffee or drink tea?” Each attendee writes their answer on the marker board and gets one point for every time they match the guest of honor’s answer.

Bonus: Have guests keep track of their score, and send the winner a cute gift!

11:45 am Shower the guest of honor with gifts—have the guest of honor open any gifts that have arrived!

12:00–12:15 pm Once the guest of honor has shared the new goodies, enjoy chit chat and one final toast to end the party!

We cannot wait to see your virtual showers! Please tag @crateandbarrel in any screenshots of your group. Cheers!
