We’re not quite ready for wintertime hygge, but we’re totally on board with having a friluftsliv fall. If you’re not familiar with the Norwegian term, that’s OK. We’re just getting on board the friluftsliv train as well. And we have to say, friluftsliv might very well be the answer to living our very best fall life.
Loosely translated to mean “open-air living,” (pronounced free-LUFTS-live) the concept was first coined in 1859 by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen and refers to the uplifting benefits of fresh air and time spent outside. The term is now widely used in Scandinavia, where the great outdoors are enjoyed all year long. The idea being that there’s no “bad” weather as long as you are prepared. With crisp, cool weather upon us, we think autumn is the perfect time to switch out tomato pots for planters of mums, layer warm, cozy throws over patio seating and fire up the fire pit. Let’s have a friluftsliv fall, y’all.
